PLATE XIII
The Rear Naked Strangle
Hadaka-jime

- Back Control
- NO GI
- 01
Achieve back control. Chest adheres to the opponent's spine as a plaster to skin, hips low, hooks set inside both thighs or legs crossed in the body triangle.
- 02
Thread the strangling arm beneath the chin, forearm entering like a blade sheathed, elbow low to prevent the opponent tucking his chin against it.
- 03Precision point
Rotate the forearm so the bone of the radius, not its flat muscle, lies directly upon the carotid triangle beneath the jaw hinge. This rotation, and this alone, closes the vessels on both sides at once.
- 04
Clasp the free hand to the biceps of the strangling arm, forming a closed frame rather than a hook of fingers.
- 05
Rest the remaining hand upon the crown of the opponent's head, palm flat, fingers unclasped, guarding against injury to the small bones of the hand.
- 06
Draw the elbows together and arch the chest forward, bringing the opponent's spine into your sternum rather than pulling his head downward.
- 07
Hold hooks firm and hips heavy. Patience closes the vessels; haste only tires the arms.
