PLATE XVII

The Armbar from Mount

Juji-gatame

Engraved plate illustrating The Armbar from Mount
Plate rendered by AI in the manner of the old engravers, drawn from reference. We are refining every figure toward anatomical exactness; some plates are near perfect and a few still carry small errors.
Difficulty V of X
  1. 01

Establish mount, weight settled low upon the hips, and secure one wrist to the mat before the patient can gather it beneath him.

  2. 02

Walk the free hand up the captured arm to the far shoulder, pinning it flush to the chest so no bend of the elbow may open a gap.

  3. 03

Step the near foot high across the face, mind the chin, and swing the far leg over the head to seat in the classic cross position.

  4. 04

Sit back only after the hips are square beneath the trapped arm, else the lever forms crooked and the joint escapes true.

  5. 05Precision point

Pinch the knees firmly together at the shoulder, trapping it as one traps a struggling limb before the knife, so the arm cannot rotate free of the line.

  6. 06

Draw the captured wrist to your chest, thumb turned skyward, and raise the hips slowly, as though lifting a tray rather than striking a blow.

  7. 07

Cease the moment resistance yields to a soft give in the joint, for the surgeon who continues past this point performs an amputation, not a correction.
