PLATE XVIII

The Americana

Ude-garami

Engraved plate illustrating The Americana
Plate rendered by AI in the manner of the old engravers, drawn from reference. We are refining every figure toward anatomical exactness; some plates are near perfect and a few still carry small errors.
Difficulty III of X
  1. 01

Secure side-control or mount, chest heavy upon the patient's sternum, weight distributed so escape is unprofitable.

  2. 02

Isolate the near arm. Pin the wrist to the mat above the patient's own shoulder, elbow bent to a right angle, as though the limb were a hinge left ajar.

  3. 03

Slide your near hand beneath the patient's elbow, palm up, fingers threading to clasp your own wrist. This forms the figure-four, the frame from which all force shall travel.

  4. 04Precision point

Press the captured elbow flush to the floor before any rotation begins. The joint must not float; it is the fixed point about which the lever turns.

  5. 05

Keeping the elbow pinned, walk the patient's wrist in an arc toward their own head, tracing the shape of a key turning in an old lock.

  6. 06

Sink the hips low and drive your chest weight through the frame as the wrist completes its arc. The shoulder will register protest before the elbow does; heed it as the signal to hold, not to hasten.
