PLATE XXI
The Wrist Lock
Kote-gaeshi lineage

- 01
From side-control, secure the opponent's near wrist with both hands, thumbs pressing into the back of the hand, fingers wrapping the palm.
- 02
Draw the captured hand toward your centerline, straightening the arm slightly to remove slack from the elbow and shoulder.
- 03
Pin the elbow lightly to the mat with your forearm or knee, preventing rotation through the shoulder.
- 04Precision point
Fold the wrist inward and downward, aligning the bend precisely along the natural crease of the joint rather than across it.
- 05
Apply steady rotational pressure toward the opponent's own shoulder, increasing torque gradually rather than sharply.
- 06
Hold position at the first sign of resistance in the tendon; further pressure is rarely necessary and dislocation is swift once resistance breaks.
