Hiza-juji-gatame

Engraved plate illustrating The Knee Bar from Top Half Guard
Plate rendered by AI in the manner of the old engravers, drawn from reference. We are refining every figure toward anatomical exactness; some plates are near perfect and a few still carry small errors.
Difficulty VIII of X
  1. 01

From top half guard, free your trapped knee to the mat and step the other leg over the opponent's thigh.

  2. 02

Spin backward over the trapped leg, chest turning toward the feet, and catch the leg between your thighs.

  3. 03

Hug the leg to your chest with both arms above your sternum, the kneecap facing away from you.

  4. 04Precision point

Pinch your knees together at the opponent's kneecap line before extending; a gap of one fist's width returns the leg to its owner.

  5. 05

Extend the hips slowly. This joint offers less warning than the elbow; grant the tap its time.
