PLATE XXXII
The Back Take from Turtle

- 01
Kneel at the patient's flank, chest inclined toward the scapula, weight borne forward rather than downward. The turtle is a shell, not a door; do not lean upon it, lean into it.
- 02
Pass the near arm beneath the patient's same-side arm to seize a fistful of lapel or, absent cloth, the far collarbone's ridge. This is the seatbelt's first thread.
- 03
Walk the knees toward the patient's hips in small steps, maintaining the chest-to-back seal. Haste here invites the patient to square his hips and face you, undoing all prior labor.
- 04Precision point
Insert the far hook first, sliding the instep inside the patient's far thigh before any attempt is made on the near side. The far hook alone denies the roll-through escape; the near hook alone denies nothing.
- 05
Only now insert the near hook, completing the harness of both legs. The patient's hips are now bracketed on either side.
- 06
Complete the seatbelt grip, one arm over the shoulder, one arm beneath, hands clasped at the sternum. Draw the patient's back flush to your chest as one draws a curtain closed.
- 07
Walk the hips backward and to the mat, taking the patient down with you rather than pulling him down alone. Land with him seated inside your frame, back given, spine offered to your control.
