PLATE XXXIII

The X-Guard Sweep

Engraved plate illustrating The X-Guard Sweep
Plate rendered by AI in the manner of the old engravers, drawn from reference. We are refining every figure toward anatomical exactness; some plates are near perfect and a few still carry small errors.
Difficulty VII of X
  1. 01

From the underhook scramble, sit to one hip as your opponent rises to standing, threading your top leg behind their near knee and your bottom leg across their far shin to establish X-guard.

  2. 02

Secure both hands on the ankle of the leg trapped by your top leg, keeping your elbows tucked to prevent early extraction.

  3. 03

Flatten your spine to the mat and drive your hips beneath your opponent's base, loading their weight onto the leg you control.

  4. 04Precision point

Wait for the instant their controlled leg becomes weight-bearing and lightly loaded, then straighten both legs in unison, the top leg lifting under the knee as the bottom leg sweeps the shin outward.

  5. 05

Continue the scissoring motion until their base leg leaves the floor entirely, releasing the ankle grip as they fall.

  6. 06

Follow the fall by rolling to your knees along the same angle of the sweep, arriving in side control before they recover posture.
