PLATE XXXIV
The Old School Sweep from Half Guard

- 01
From bottom half guard, secure a deep underhook on the trapped side, pressing your chest flush to the practitioner's sternum to deny frame space.
- 02
Use your bottom leg to hook the practitioner's near ankle, locking the knee-ankle line so their base leg cannot slide free.
- 03
Plant your free foot flat near your own hip, forming a tripod of ankle-hook, hip, and foot that will serve as your lifting engine.
- 04
Elevate the trapped leg with your shin while driving the underhook shoulder upward and across, breaking the practitioner's vertical posture.
- 05Precision point
As their weight shifts rearward to recover balance, time your hip escape so the outside knee crosses beneath their trapped leg at the exact instant their posting hand leaves the mat. This is the moment the sweep is decided.
- 06
Drive through your planted foot, rolling the practitioner over the trapped shoulder and following them down into side control, retaining the underhook throughout.
