PLATE XXXIX
Escaping the Guillotine

- 01
The moment the arm circles the neck, tuck the chin firmly and seize the choking wrist with both hands before the lock seats deep.
- 02
Drive the hips forward into the opponent's center, flattening the angle of the choke and preventing full extension of the arm.
- 03Precision point
Rotate the skull so the chin points toward the outside of the choking bicep, turning the throat away from the center of the strangle.
- 04
Step the near foot wide and hip escape until the shoulders sit perpendicular to the opponent's chest, easing pressure along the trachea.
- 05
Slide the trapped forearm inside the gap and pry the choking elbow away from the neck, using the forearm bone as a wedge.
- 06
Once the arm loosens, walk the head over the extended limb and settle into side control, securing the freed arm at the wrist.
