PLATE IX

The Triangle Strangle

Sankaku-jime

Engraved plate illustrating The Triangle Strangle
Difficulty IV of X
  1. 01

From the closed guard, secure one wrist and draw it across the centerline, breaking the opponent's posture forward so the crown of the head inclines toward your hips.

  2. 02

Elevate the hips and shift to an angle, freeing one leg to climb the shoulder of the trapped arm, positioning the knee high near the opposite ear.

  3. 03

Cross the free ankle behind the knee of the elevated leg, forming the triangle frame, with the captured arm and the opponent's own neck now bound together within it.

  4. 04

Draw the head downward with both hands laced behind it, closing the distance so the collarbone of the trapped shoulder presses toward the opposite carotid line.

  5. 05Precision point

Rotate the trapped-side knee downward and across, angling the shin so the point of pressure shifts from the crossed ankle to the blade of the shin bone itself, closing the vascular gates on both sides of the neck simultaneously.

  6. 06

Extend the hips slightly and draw the captured wrist toward your own centerline, denying any final leverage for escape as the strangle completes.
