PLATE III
Grips and the Kill Zone

- 01
Approach from side control, weight settled through the sternum, hips heavy upon the floating ribs.
- 02
Secure the far-side collar with a deep four-finger grip, knuckles pressed to the mat beneath the neck, thumb tucked inside to avoid slippage.
- 03
Capture the near arm at the tricep, elbow drawn snug to your own ribs so the limb cannot lever outward.
- 04
Walk the hips toward the head until the shoulder line of the opponent is trapped beneath your sternum, closing what the old surgeons called the kill zone, the narrow corridor between chin and collarbone where escape routes collapse.
- 05Precision point
Adjust the collar grip so the knuckles rotate inward, turning slack fabric into a fixed rail along the carotid line without yet applying strangling pressure.
- 06
From this frame, transition options open freely: mount, armbar, or choke, each now assisted by the immobility already purchased through the grip.
